INVENTORY MANAGEMENT & WAREHOUSING

What is a Warehouse Management System?

A Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a software application that specializes in supporting daily operations in a warehouse. This application allows HTH Transport Sdn Bhd to have a centralized network where different warehouse management duties are controlled through an interface on a tablet or handheld device that works in the warehouse or a desktop in the office. This makes warehouse handling easy and efficient, and also ensure that losses are minimal if they occur in different warehouse processes. The real advantage to HTH Transport Sdn Bhd is in customer service. HTH knows exactly where each product is. This seems like a business goal, but for HTH customers, it means they can get the goods faster, without errors, so they are more probably to return.

What does a Warehouse Management System (WMS) do?

The warehouse management system used by HTH Transport Sdn Bhd is to track and control the storage and transfer of goods in the warehouse. This system involves several important processes when receiving, shipping, or storing goods and is integrated with other systems in the supply chain to make sure data transparency throughout the HTH  Transport Sdn Bhd .

- Warehouse design, which allows HTH Transport Sdn Bhd to select logic and customize workflows to ensure that their warehouses are planned for perfected inventory allocation. The WMS takes into account variations in seasonal inventory and assigns bin slots that maximize storage space.

- Inventory tracking, which allows the use of automatic identification, advanced tracking, and data capture (AIDC) systems, includes barcode scanners and RFID to ensure goods can be easily located when they need to be moved.

- Receiving and putaway, which enables inventory to be removed and retrieved, often with pick-to-voice or pick-to-light technology to help HTH warehouse workers locate items.

- Picking and packing items, including picking waves, picking zones and picking groups. HTH warehouse workers can also use task interleaving and lot zoning functions to help pick and pack duty in the most efficient way.

- Shipping, which allows HTH Transport Sdn Bhd to generate invoices and packing lists for shipments, send bills of lading (B/L) in advance of shipment, and send advance shipping notifications to consignees.

- Labor management, which helps HTH warehouse managers monitor employee performance by using key performance indicators (KPIs) that show which employees are performing below or above standards.

- Yard and dock management, which helps HTH truck drivers enter the warehouse to find the right loading dock. The use of more complex yard and dock management allows cross-docking and other outbound and inbound logistics functions.

- Reporting, which helps HTH Transport Sdn Bhd managers evaluate the performance of warehouse operations and find areas for improvement.

    1. Warehouse management and inventory management are both supply chain management concepts. Warehouse management systems focus on the movement of all products in the warehouse while, inventory management takes precedence over warehouse management and includes inventory control, demand forecasting, as well as reverse logistics.
